What is the application?

The application identifies dog breeds through pictures captured by your device's camera or from the image gallery. Additionally, it can determine which dog breed a person in a photo resembles the most. Furthermore, in a light-hearted twist, the application can offer suggestions on which breed of dog you or your friends might be similar to.

How does it work?

An image is fed into an expert system that utilizes neural networks to generate hypotheses about the breed of the dog depicted in the photo. The unique properties of neural networks allow even pictures without dogs to be associated to some extent with various dog breeds.

What is the recognition accuracy?

The system has been trained to identify 48 dog breeds using 40,000 photographs. In the latest version of the application, the accuracy of breed recognition was reported to be at 84% across 40,000 images. Ongoing experiments with neural networks aim to enhance recognition quality in future updates by expanding the range of recognized breeds.

Goals for the Future

Future updates will include an augmentation of the training dataset with user-submitted dog photos. This continuous expansion aims to increase both the variety of recognized dog breeds and the overall accuracy of breed identification. The ultimate objective of this project is to develop an expert system capable of classifying all known dog breeds solely from images.
